Pro Wrestling
|
Being bored and with the Hulk Hogan thing still in and out of the news, I got thinking about the "good old days" of my childhood watching something called Stampede Wrestling (which the WWF bought in 1986)
Some of my favourites there were British and I was wondering if people remember Davey Boy Smith (stupid parents explains that middle name) or the Dynamite Kid before they left England.
Barring that whatever wrestling memories people have.

Is that the same Davey Boy Smith that went under the guise of the British Bulldog? He's dead now. Another wrestler to die fairly young.

Different generation but I remember kicking RIGHT OFF when Stone Cold got together with Vince McMahon and stabbed the Rock in the back, I'm pretty sure I knew it was fake by then as well.

Yeah I remember them. They might both be dead now? Bret Hart was my favourite as a kid. The guy was a phenomenal worker and showman. Technically brilliant at putting a top class match on even with carrying much lesser wrestlers.

Haven't watched wrestling for donkeys' years, but used to enjoy the performances of Giant Haystacks and Big Daddy.

Eric and Marston
That's him.
Apparently he was wrestling on ITV at age 15 or something.

I did not. The Big Daddy & Giant Haystacks era was a little bit before my time.
Wonder how many of them are dead now, would be surprised if there's many left.

Remember the wrestling boom at school in about 1990.
Went to the states during the easter holidays and brought back my first action figures: Hulk Hogan, Macho Man and......Sting.
Proudly bowled back into school after the holidays with my Sting action figure but was shunned when trying to join in a 'royal rumble' as Sting was WCW and not WWF!!!
Didn't understand the difference.

World of Sport on a Saturday afternoon? Essential viewing round my Nans, she'd headbut anybody asking for something else on the tv.
Did Giant Haystacks ever win a bout with Big Daddy? I don't remember it if he did.

So I guess Davey Boy was still Young David in England even after competing in Canada for a number of years.

Reaching 60 of age for some of these wrestlers is a real milestone.
